The microorganisms that live in our guts are more important than many of us think. However, one of the biggest threats to the health and diversity of our gut microbiota is the inappropriate use of antibiotics. To raise awareness on this issue and empower people to use antibiotics responsibility, the World Microbiome Day 2019 theme is ‘Bacterial Resistance to Antibiotics.’

On this June 27th, we propose to spend some time learning more about the importance of the gut microbiota. Our blog Gut Microbiota for Health and the World Microbiome Day website contains plenty of educational resources and infographics.

To get started, we suggest browsing some of our infographics on Lactobacilli, the beneficial bacteria that is also involved in the process of fermentation, as well as Bifidobacteria. To learn more about the role of the gut microbiota in health, we recommend reading the following articles about digestive health, microbiota and obesity, autoimmune disease, and allergies. We also encourage you to keep your microbiota healthy; our article on probiotics and prebiotics could help you, and as well as some dietitian’s advice.

This learning is for everyone, so do not forget to spread the word so that friends and family can benefit from the knowledge you gained on World Microbiome Day!
