How do sports impact our gut microbiota? We know that diet affects our overall health. We also know that exercise does the same: It affects our immune system and gut permeability, also has anti-inflammatory effects.
Professor Paul Cotter, an investigator at APC Microbiome Ireland, studies the microbiome of professional athletes to identify the relationship between specific sports and microbiome changes. In this video interview, he explains how a “rich diversity of microbes is good because it makes your microbiota more resilient and gives you a greater capacity for your microbes to do different things.”
On the occasion of the 8th Gut Microbiota for Health World Summit 2019, we had the opportunity to talk to Prof. Cotter about the gut microbiota, diet and exercise. Could be this the key to our microbial diversity?
