Two weeks after World Microbiome Day, it gives us great pleasure to share a new GMFH interview recorded during the 9th Gut Microbiota for Health World Summit 2020 held in Madrid (Spain), with Professor Kevin Whelan, Head of the Department of Nutritional Sciences at King’s College London.

The World Microbiome Day 2020 motto was #DiversityMatters, celebrating how a diverse diet and gut microbiota are good indicators of better health and well-being.  Dietary and lifestyle patterns are the factors that have the biggest impact on the variety of bacteria present in your gut. As Prof Whelan explains “There are plenty of foods in our diet that are really great for our health”, such as fruit, vegetables and whole grains. It is important to combine both animal and plant-based foods, as well as fermented foods containing probiotics, which combined with fiber help maintain microbiota diversity.
