Gut Microbiota for Health is pleased to present its “Year at a Glance 2017” document! With an editorial from Prof. Fernando Azpiroz, Head of the Gut Microbiota & Health section of the European Society of Neurogastroenterology and Motility (ESNM), Vienna (Austria), this report summarizes the important breakthroughs in gut microbiota research in 2017.

The last year has been a special period of growth and achievement for gut microbiota science. 2017 marked ten years of microbiome research, since the launch of the European Metagenomics of the Human Intestinal Tract (MetaHIT) project, the US National Institutes of Health Human Microbiome Project (HMP) as well as the beginning of the Chinese metagenomics projects. Likewise, last year, the Gut Microbiota for Health (GMFH) initiative turned five with a digital community of over 50,000 members, including scientists, healthcare professionals, and gut microbiota enthusiasts! In 2017 our website had over 950,000 hits and was, for the second year in a row, selected as one of the best gut health blogs by Healthline.
